1/28: Thesis Statements

Hi Students!

Today we will start by briefly revising what we have discussed thus far, such as the communication model, tone, and purpose in academic writing. It is important to remember that our discussion around these topics should always revolve around the diagnostic exam. So you should be reflecting on what you did, and how that could have changed, after each lesson we have completed.

The focus of today's class will be on thesis statements. Specifically, we will examine the purpose of thesis statements, identify them in writing, and predict what a paper/text will be about depending on its thesis statement. In addition, we will talk about - and work on - parallel structure.

1. Academic Introduction Paragraphs
2. Writing a Thesis Statement
3. Parallel Structure

Time allowing, I will discuss homework assignments / expectations / due dates

Thanks!
